Draft, pending attorney review

This is a plain-language draft. A lawyer is reviewing it, and the reviewed version will replace it before any outside company is let in.

Terms of use

Last updated September 11, 2026

1.What this is

Mechanic Sidekick is an app for keeping track of equipment: what you own, what broke, what was fixed, and what it costs to run.

These terms are the deal between us (Mechanic Sidekick, "we") and your company ("you") when your company uses the app. Setting up a company or joining one means agreeing to them.

2.Your company account

The person who sets up a company is its owner and agrees to these terms for the company. The owner decides who gets in and what each person can do.

Keep passwords to yourselves. Your company is responsible for what the people it lets in do in the app. One login belongs to one company.

3.Your records are yours

The records your company puts in (equipment, repairs, hours, parts, costs, photos and notes) belong to your company. You can export them.

4.What you let us do with the data

To run the app, and to build things from what it collects, you give us a broad, worldwide, royalty-free, permanent right to use, copy, store, analyse and combine the data your company puts in, and to make new data from it, such as averages across many companies.

That right carries on after your company leaves, but only for data that has been made anonymous and combined with other companies’ data.

5.What we promise in return

We pool data anonymously and in aggregate, for benchmarks and industry insights, like what a chipper really costs per hour to run.

Nothing we share or publish ever names your company, and anything we share is built from enough companies that no single one can be picked out.

Personal information about your people (names, emails, phone numbers, voice notes and photos of people) is protected. It is never part of what we share, and we never sell it.

We never sell your raw data.

In return, you get to see how your fleet compares with others like it.

6.Using it properly

Do not use the app to break the law, to try to get into another company’s records, to overload or take apart the app, or to upload things you have no right to.

7.It is not a safety system

The app helps you keep track. A red tag in the app does not replace your own lockout, inspection and safety procedures, and a machine showing as good in the app is not a promise that it is safe. Inspect equipment before you use it.

8.No guarantees

We work hard to keep the app running and your records safe, but it is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available or free of mistakes.

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses such as lost profit or downtime, and our total responsibility is limited to what your company paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or 100 US dollars if it paid nothing.

9.Price

Right now there is no charge. If that changes, we will tell the owner in advance, and your company can leave before it does.

10.Leaving

Your company can stop using the app at any time and ask us to close its account. Export your records first.

After an account is closed, we delete the company’s records and the personal information in them within 90 days, except what the law makes us keep and data that has already been made anonymous and combined.

11.Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we tell the owner in the app or by email before it takes effect. Carrying on using the app after that means accepting the change.
